Description Any applicant who successfully completes the Bridge Resource Management (MIDATL-75) course will satisfy: The bridge resource management requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(vii); 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(vii); 46 CFR 11.321(a)(3)(iv); and Section A-II/1, Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010; AND, The leadership and team working skills requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(c)(1); 46 CFR 319(b)(1); 46 CFR 11.321(b)(1); and Section A-II/1, Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010; AND, The following practical assessments performed during this course have been determined to be equivalent of National Assessment GuidelinesTasks as documented in NVIC 12-14 Tasks for Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on Vessels of 500 GT or More: 2.7.A; 2.7.B; 2.7.C; 2.7.D; 2.7.E; 2.7.F; 2.7.G; 17.1.A; and 18.1.A; 18.2.A; & 18.3.A Applicants who have successfully completed this course need not present completed “Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification. The objective of this course is to instruct the student in the areas relevant to Bridge Resource Management and application of leadership and teamworking skills. The completion of the course will satisfy the 46 CFR and STCW requirements cited above. Simulator and classroom exercises are used to evaluate the student’s mastery of the specific OICNW tasks. Officers in charge of the navigational watch must be aware of requirements for maintaining a safe navigational watch, application of leadership and teamworking skills and bridge resource management principles as follows: Table A-II/1 Specification of minimum standard of competence for officers in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more Function: Navigation at the operational level Competence: Maintain a safe navigational watch Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency Bridge resource management Knowledge of bridge resource management principles, including: Allocation, assignment, and prioritization of resources Effective Communication Assertiveness and leadership Obtaining and maintaining situational awareness Consideration of team experience Function: Controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board at the operational level Competence: Monitor compliance with legislative requirements Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency Basic working knowledge of the relevant IMO conventions concerning safety of life at sea, security and protection of the marine environment Competence: Application of leadership and teamworking skills Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency Working knowledge of shipboard personnel management and training A knowledge of related international maritime conventions and recommendations, and national legislation Ability to apply task and workload management, including: Planning and co-ordination Personnel assignment Time and resource constraints Prioritization Knowledge and ability to apply effective resource management: Allocation, assignment, and prioritization of resources Effective communication onboard and ashore Decisions reflect consideration of team experiences Assertiveness and leadership, including motivation Obtaining and maintaining situational awareness Knowledge and ability to apply decision-making techniques: Situation and risk assessment Identify and consider generated options Selecting course of action Evaluation of outcome effectiveness Recommended Study Material: Navigation Rules International—Inland COMDTINST M16672.2D.Publisher Department of Transportation United Sates Coast Guard Farwell’s Rules of the Nautical Road, 8th Edition By Craig H.
