Designed to meet industry standards for junior deckhands, it provides the practical seamanship and onboard awareness captains expect from green crew. Completing this course gives you an edge when applying for daywork or full-time positions. Career Path & Salary Impact: Junior deckhands typically earn $2,500–$3,500/month starting out. Yachts over 60m or charter-focused vessels pay more, with opportunities to reach $4,800+/month when combining deck duties with specialist skills. Examples: Fitness Instructor → Junior Deckhand → +$1,600 Dive Instructor → Experienced Deckhand → +$3,400 Lifeguard → Junior Deckhand → +$2,200 What You’ll Learn: Deck Operations & Practical Seamanship – Line handling, knot tying, ropework, fenders, anchoring, mooring, and deck terminology. Tender Driving & Boat Handling – Powerboat handling, close-quarters maneuvering, launching, docking, and anchoring. VHF Radio & Communications – Correct radio use, distress procedures, and onboard communication. Safety, Protocol & Life Onboard – Teamwork, hierarchy, safety drills, yacht etiquette, professionalism, and presentation. Training takes place at our MCA-approved facility in Phuket. Entry Requirements Minimum age: 16 years old Good level of spoken and written English (all training and assessments are in English)
